Life is, in part, about the relationships we form along the way. Everyone has different family units and people who are important to them and, while we might treat these people differently according to the nature of our relationships, one thing is universal.
We want to show our loved ones just how much we appreciate them.
Whether you’re thinking of a significant other or romantic relationship, a familial relationship like your children, your parents, or your siblings, or a platonic relationship with your friends and chosen family, it’s important to show your appreciation whenever you can.
This doesn’t just build up your relationship or make your loved one happy, being kind can actually benefit your mental health. So, how can you spread the love?
Giving Gifts
The most obvious way to show appreciation is by giving gifts. Sometimes people don’t see gift-giving as that impactful, especially when you’re seemingly just giving a gift because of a cultural obligation, rather than from genuine feelings.
But the mistake a lot of people make is that they don’t give gifts with a lot of thought behind them. There are two key ways to level up your gift-giving.
First, give gifts without an occasion. Practice the phrase “I saw this and thought of you.” The gift will be an actual surprise and will be more impactful for it.
Second, think about the person you’re giving the gift to. Sometimes the most expensive gift isn’t the best gift for them. A book you know they’ll love, some of their favourite wine that happened to be in the shop, or even something you’ve made are all great gifts. Throwing a Party or Event
If your loved one is going through a milestone event, such as moving somewhere new, getting married, or having a baby, this is the perfect time to throw a party. Again, not every party will be the same.
Your best friend’s hen night is going to be a very different affair from your nephew’s graduation party, at least it should be.
Think about the reason for the party and, you guessed it, think about the person at the centre of it. Two hen parties can be very different events, depending on the wishes of the respective brides.
While these are good reasons to throw a party, you should also consider arranging a night out (or in) without a special occasion as well. Spending time with people is the best way to show your care for them.
Tell Them
TIme and talk are the two keys to really showing your appreciation.
Spending time with your loved ones can be both fun and meaningful, especially if you learn how to communicate with them.
Simply put, if you want someone to know just how much you care for them, tell them with your words. Yes, they probably already know, but it’s nice to hear sometimes.
