If you know you want to change your home’s style and elevate it to something that’s on trend (or timelessly classic) and that really appeals to your own preferences, you might start to think about all the big things you can do, like changing all your carpets, adding an extension, or converting a loft into a master suite.
However, it could be that some much more simple – and more cost-effective – changes could make just as much difference and improve your home hugely. Read on to find out what some of these simple ideas are.
Update Your Lighting
Lighting can make a huge difference to your home, and simply by updating your current lighting fixtures, you can truly elevate your home’s style. There are potentially hundreds of thousands (and maybe more) of designs to choose from, so don’t rush – you’ll want to make the right choice.
Think about the dimensions of the room. You’ll need a lighting fixture that isn’t too big in a small room, and that isn’t too small in a big room. Also bear in mind how long the fixture might hang, as you don’t want to keep banging your head on it in a room with a low ceiling.
Install Window Shutters
Just like you’re going to need lighting in your home, you’re also going to need window treatments. It makes sense to ensure that these essential elements are as up-to-date and stylish as possible because, although they might be small, they will certainly make a difference in the overall look of your home.
Window shutters are a great alternative to curtains as they look sophisticated and classy, and they have the timeless feel you might be searching for. Whereas the colours and patterns on your curtains can look dated quite quickly, your window shutters will always look just right, especially if you make sure they match or at least complement the rest of your decor. Shutters also let much more natural light into your home, and this will also enhance how it looks, making it feel more spacious and more comfortable.
Add Some Plants And Greenery
There is something very soothing about indoor houseplants, and adding them to your home will make it a lovely place to be. It will feel more relaxing and homely, and as an added bonus, plants purify the air, removing allergens. This makes your home a healthier space as well as a comfortable one.
As well as all of this, plants simply look great when used well in interior design. You might choose to place them on a windowsill to make your view look more interesting – you might even want to have a windowbox, allowing you to have outdoor plants close to your interior, giving you the best of both worlds.
Another great idea would be to hang plants from the ceiling (although the height of the ceiling must be taken into account, just like when you choose light fixtures). Or why not invest in some interesting pots and have them dotted around your home?
Indoor plants will look fabulous anywhere, so experiment with what works for you. You’ll be amazed at the difference this makes in your home.
