Remember when I set up a posh bath account on Instagram during lockdown? Well, I’ve rekindled my love of luxury bathing which of course means indulging in elite bath snacks. I’ve recently swapped screen time for a long hot soak and a good book and it’s turned into a nightly ritual I love. But let’s get to what this post is actually about. Liquorice. I was sent an amazing little package from the folk at Lakrids by Bülow who is a Danish confectionary brand that makes chocolate-covered liquorice (niche I know) and I wanted to leave a review here letting you in on what is not only a fab gift idea for liquorice lovers but a superb snack for your own cupboard come movie night or solo Friday nights or any night really.
I’ve never had more DMs than when I posted this snap on Instagram the other night. So many people asked why I was eating potatoes in the bath. Others knew exactly what I was eating and slid into my DMs to rave about their favourite flavour. When I first received this I thought. Hmmm. Liquorice isn’t really my go-to sweet treat. I’m a fussy eater and the thought of so many intense flavours wasn’t something I was on board with at first. As a sceptic, the Mango Vanilla flavour wasn’t what I reached for first, it was actually the Dark Truffle flavour because I wanted to play it safe. The pairing works. Each ball is dusted with a cocoa covering which is delightful. But it was the rich Caramel Date flavour that really won me over. This concoction has Maldon sea salt flakes in which really make it an irresistible flavour.
Lakrids by Bülow have been making delicious and unique liquorice treats for over 10 years and they kindly sent me their Mango and Vanilla chocolate-coated liquorice as well as their dark truffle and caramel date flavours from the much-awaited Slow Crafted range. This luxury range has been released to celebrate the brand’s 15-year anniversary. So, my first impressions are:
The packaging is stunning, high quality and elegant. These are the perfect snacks to display or keep on show for guests to enjoy. The jar is crafted from recycled glass which is sustainable and can be used to house any number of trinkets once the treats have been consumed.
The creation process is complex, it takes 24 hours to make one of those delicious balls of chocolate-covered liquorice and the man behind the brand is an Entrepreneur whose aim is to make the world love Liquorice. You can tell a lot of love has been poured into every creation.
The flavour is totally unique and extremely moreish. You get a hit of the sweet chocolate before a hefty dose of herbal liquorice flavour at the centre. If you like fruity flavours, the Mango Vanilla will be right up your street but I prefer the sweeter more caramel-type flavours. My mum is a huge Licourice lover and she raved about the Caramel Date flavour too. Have you tried this luxury confectionary brand?
Spoiler alert – now you all know what you’re getting for xmas.
