It’s no secret that I love a holiday. But while I’m known for wanting to be poolside most months of the year, I love that there are so many stunning destinations right on my doorstep. More and more people are choosing transformative travel over fly and flop vacations of late and I totally get it. There is something so attractive about a holiday that promises to provide a change of perspective, self-reflection and a spot of character building for good measure. There really are some amazing adventure holidays based in the UK, from beautiful beaches on the Northumberland Coast, rolling green hills in the Cotswolds, to scenic shores in the Lake District. Here’s why you should visit:
You’ll Increase your Fitness
If you want to boost your fitness while enjoying a getaway but don’t want to slog it out in the gym, signing up for a six-day trek is a superb way to get fit and have fun at the same time. You’ll be so busy soaking up the views and discovering the delights of the Lake District or whichever UK destination you decide on that you’ll be burning calories without even realising it!
You’ll Return Well Rested and Recharged
If you’ve ever come home from a holiday more tired than when you arrived due to partying at all times of the day and night, you may want to consider an active holiday. Here you can focus on your health and wellbeing and take your fitness to the next level with the bonus of some stunning scenery. Spending time outdoors reduces stress and being around nature can make this type of holiday a zen-like experience. Even a short stint enjoying the outdoors can result in you coming home looking and feeling better.
You’ll Acomplish Something
Feeling a little demotivated? Can’t remember the last time you challenged yourself? Completing a particularly challenging guided walk around the Northumberland Coast or doing a six-day cycle challenge around the Cotswolds comes with a serious sense of accomplishment that you don’t get from sitting on a sun lounger for a week. There are active holidays out there to suit all ages and abilities, so finding one to suit your fitness level is simple. Sometimes all you need to feel a sense of accomplishment is to push yourself out of your comfort zone for a while and an active break will do just that!
You’ll Forge New Friendships
A guided walk or trek is the perfect place to meet like-minded people and who knows, you might even come back having made a friend for life! I have done a number of fitness boot camps and active holidays and I always find that doing a fitness challenge with others results in a natural bond that comes with sharing a few trials and triumphs.
You’ll Make New Memories
Whether you want to try an active adventure holiday to meet new people, to increase your fitness, or to get away from the stress of your everyday routine, you can’t help but come home with plenty of lovely new memories that you’ll remember for a lifetime. Take a fitness journal with you so you don’t forget a thing!
Where’s next on your transformation travel bucket list?
