OK. Let’s talk luxury cruising. To say I’ve only been on one cruise as an adult, I’ve written a LOT about cruising (see Cruise Tips for First-Timers and How to Get the Most Out of your cruise) and that’s because it genuinely changed my life. I had all of these preconceived ideas about cruising mainly that you had to do loads of touristy things and queue for food and there would be fanny packs (spoiler – there were lots of fanny packs). I boarded a cruise ship and floated around the Bahamas with minimal WIFI and maximum hair volume (it’s the humidity) and a cocktail surgically attached to my right hand at all times. It. Was. Bliss. However, since the rooms were practically dorms and I need Google in my life in order to function, I’ve been dreaming of trying a luxury version and that’s what this post is all about. Here’s a little guide on how to live your best life on a luxury cruise with ROL Cruise (browse Seaborn Cruises here for ultimate luxe cruise inspo) and why you should try one.
Book a Suite
So, my one issue with cheaper cruise liners is the rooms take you back to your first day at Uni with single beds and bathrooms that you can barely fit your right thigh in. It’s not ok. Luxury cruising offers accommodation that boasts amenities that are synonymous with luxe hotel rooms and some liners even offer spacious suites complete with an in-suite bar, a personal suite stewardess to shower you with champagne and canapes and WAIT for it. Designer soaps and a choice of pillows! SOLD.
Start your Day with a PT Session (if you’re that way inclined)
Now, this wouldn’t be my first choice first thing on a morning (I’m more of a watch the sunrise with a green tea and 4 different types of pastries type of gal) but if you don’t want to let your home gym routine slip while you’re away you can schedule some time with a trainer.
Get a Massage, a Facial and a Body Wrap
Luxury cruise ships have luxury spas on board so make full use of the treatments on offer. If you’ve been making use of the personal trainers that offer one to one training on luxury cruise ships, this is the perfect post-workout treat. Or maybe your arms are aching from lifting cocktails to your mouth on the hour every hour. There’s also a handy nail bar should you have chipped a nail while reaching for the sun lotion.
Dining with a Difference
Unlike the unlimited pizza and ice cream situations that happen on most cruise ships, luxury cruising is a whole new kettle of fish. Seabourn for example, are members of an elite dining society called the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs so you know the food is going to be pretty special. They serve up the kind of dishes you would expect from a Michelin starred establishment which is a world away from free coke refills and all you can eat chicken wings. *applauds*
Above and Beyond Service
Budget cruise liners aren’t known for their impeccable customer service but with 24748 customers on board are we really surprised? Seaborne Cruise Ships only have a limited number of rooms and suites so the ships are less crowded and the service is second to none. There’s staff to get you a blanket if you’re chilly, a waiter to top up your drink if needed or polish your sunglasses if they aren’t scrupulously clean!
Ok, who wants to come on a cruise with me?
*This post was a collaboration with ROL Cruise but my love of cruising is 100% my own.
