Hello hello and happy Saturday! So, one thing I always struggled with before I got pregnant was picking out gifts for my pregnant friends. I’m talking about birthday gifts, baby shower gifts and just because gifts. There are a lot of things that are off limits, alcohol-related presents, certain beauty products and spa experiences. Now that I’m having a baby it really is glaringly obvious what makes excellent gifts so I thought I’d whip up a little post to put you in the picture. Happy shopping!
Non-Alcoholic Seedlip – AKA The closest thing to a G & T. Expensive and super fancy? Yes but worth every penny. No more feeling left out at parties and get-togethers. This would make a great Xmas pressie for your pregnant gal pal.
Pamper Hamper – These are great for ladies in the first or second trimester (ie those of us who can still reach their toes). Yes, we do want to go the extra mile but we don’t want to spend a fortune on lotions and potions when we have exciting purchases like breast pumps to budget for. The Clarins Body Oil is the perfect stand-alone gift (I’ve yet to get a stretch mark and I’m giving this little bottle all the credit) but if you want to put together a little hamper of products, get ALL the palmers goodies. Throw in a few practical products such as a box of Pregnacare or a sleep spray, both little luxuries that she might not want to splash out on herself. Don’t discount something utterly luxurious that is just for her. There will be so many gifts for the baby and something fancy that she can keep all for herself is always a good idea. Many people are sensitive to scents while pregnant but that doesn’t mean you need to avoid fragrances altogether. I would have loved a luxurious perfume like this Miller Harris scent that is perfect for new mums going on their first post-baby date night.
Pedicures – For those in their third trimester, vouchers for her local salon is a godsend. We might not be able to see our toes at this point but other people can! Did someone say delivery nails? Pedi vouchers are always a safe bet.
The Group gift – A Practical Tote makes the ultimate baby shower gift or birthday gift if you want to surprise the mum to be with a functional bag that is fashionable too! Brands like Radley stock fabulous bags that will be super useful to use during pregnancy and after the little one arrives. This is super gift idea if you want to split it among a group of besties. I’ve got my eye on the black quilted tote!
Pregnancy Pillow – Another thing that I’ve used every night is my pregnancy pillow. Not the easiest to wrap but something your bestie will be overjoyed with.
Cravings Hamper – A big old box of those weird and wonderful snacks she’s been craving. Sour sweets, biscuits and cake, oh my! One of my friends popped in a packet of Bettys shortbread biscuits in my baby shower gift to stow away for late night feeds. What a lovely idea! Alternatively, pop a voucher in a card for one of those fun meal delivery services. Ideal for that first week at home with a newborn. Everyone loves pasta.
Bath soak, oils and salts (pregnancy friendly) – I’ve spent approximately 97% of my pregnancy in the bath and bath related items are about as exciting as it gets. Always check that the items are pregnancy safe and if you are unsure, opt for something to read in the bath, something to make bathtime more luxurious like a fancy candle or something to eat in the bath? (just me?).
Mum to be massages – I’ve had a few of these and they truly make the third trimester more bearable. The perfect antidote for swollen ankles, puffy legs and achy backs. The Decleor mum to be massages are heavenly.
Mini Toiletries for her Hospital Bag – Those products that she can’t live without that make her feel human again, buy them in miniature form. I have all of my favourite cleansers, dry shampoo and moisturisers in mini all packed and ready to go. If you’ve been through labour and found something particularly helpful, pop that in too.
Books – Reading material that won’t make her freak out. I recommend this one. My friend popped round with this when I was around 6 weeks pregnant and it was a great introduction to what was to come.
