If you follow me on Instagram, you will know I recently explored the East Coast of America. First stop? NYC! I’m a pretty demanding hotel guest so when it came to choosing a place to stay in New York, I did quite a lot of research to ensure the first few nights of our East Coast road trip was perfect. I used to read all kinds of articles when researching hotels but now I tend to browse reviews by other bloggers (I found this hotel via a review on Coco’s Tea Party) and then check the hotel out on Trip Advisor before booking. Travelling to NYC is a fairly exhausting experience so having a cloud like bed to slip into is essential and I’m pretty sure there’s isn’t a softer place to rest your head in the city. The Roger Hotel is located on Madison Avenue, a mere three blocks away from the Empire State Building so it’s the perfect central location if you plan to fit in a few touristy sights during your trip. Free Wifi? Check! A bed larger than my bedroom at home? Check! Did I mention there’s a complimentary wine hour? Read on as we check in to the Roger Hotel. Here are ten reasons why I love this little boutique beauty.
The Decor -The hotel is instantly recognisable thanks to its monochrome striped canopy, a decor theme that is present throughout the hotel interior with Instagram ready backdrops a go go.
The Huge Bed – Like many hotels in NYC, the rooms are small and compact but contemporary and cosy. The bed takes up three quarters of the room and it is incredibly comfy, just what you need after a long day of exploring.
The Posh Lotions and Potions – I often judge a hotel on the toiletries they provide and The Roger certainly didn’t disappoint in this area. The bathroom is again small but perfectly formed with fabulous lighting and fancy toiletries.
The People – The staff are super helpful and will offer advice on everything from the best seats at the baseball to the finest Italian eateries in the area. Nothing is too much.
The Breakfast Buffet – Breakfast was included in our room so we opted for this instead of a pricey brunch in the city and it was hands down one of the best hotel breakfast buffets I’ve ever encountered. After countless bagels smothered with cream cheese topped with layer after layer of smoked salmon, a teetering tower of pastries and a mountain of scrambled eggs topped with bacon rashers and a side of OJ, we were fuelled up for the day.
The Little Things – I love a hotel that pays attention to detail and The Roger Hotel does just that. There’s even cosy robes to snuggle up in. *happy face*
The Free Wifi – One of my pet hates is having to shell out for wifi and this hotel has free wifi in all areas (hurrah).
The Mini Bar of Dreams – One of the first things I noticed when entering our room was a mini bar stocked with everything you could ever want from Oreos and popcorn to American chocolate and candy. (You may have see this on my Snapchat) I may or may not have inhaled a pack of Oreos at 4am but jetlag totally excuses this right? (When you are jetlagged, it seems totally reasonable to pay $8 for a KitKat).
The Complimentary Wine Hour – Between 4pm and 5pm guests are invited down to the lobby to enjoy a chilled glass of complimentary wine. Fabulous huh?
Location Location Location – If it’s your first time in NYC it really helps to be in the thick of it all. This hotel has a number of attractions on its doorstep from the Empire State Building to the Madison Square Gardens (and Macy’s if you’re feeling spendy). Gossip Girl fans will love that Grand Central Station is only a few blocks away.
The Gym – When jetlag wakes you up at some ungodly hour, you can sweat out your frustration in the on-site gym. My other half loved the fitness centre, I on the other hand couldn’t peel myself away from the supremely comfy bed.
Essential Info:
A taxi from the airport will cost you around $60-65 and the ride takes around 25 minutes (inclusing a toll which is $5 and you will have to include a $6 tip). There is a cheaper way of getting to Manhattan using the Airtrain (located in Terminal 7) that goes from JFK airport to Times Square but if you have a lot of luggage you might not be able to resist the lure of a shiny yellow taxi cab.
Have you stayed at The Roger Hotel?
*I received a complimentary stay at The Roger Hotel in exchange for this review but as always the opinions stated in this post are 100% my own.
Looks fab, I love my stay at The Gansevoort in NYC, I’d highly recommend there too.

Ooh, thanks for the recommendation. I’ve heard great things about the Gansevoort. x
Yes stayed here back in March, in the penthouse suite! Absolutely loved it, and the CO Bigelow toiletries were a treat! I love this hotel and will certainly be coming back as the location is brilliant and the shake shack in Madison square park is addictive!
