SPF for the face: Clarins VS Caudalie

Beach
If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen a few of my recent holiday snaps from Mallorca and you may have spotted a few of my new favourite beauty essentials. There is nothing I find more satisfying than mosying around Boots filling my basket to the brim with beauty buys for the beach. Until this year, I never really understood the point of investing in a tube of sun cream that is solely for the face. I have very very fair skin which means I have to pack a lot of different factors to protect it, factor 30 for the first couple of days and a factor 15 for the last few days. I don’t travel light and the last thing I need is another tube of sun cream to pack in my case but after my holiday last year to Ibiza I learned that my regular sun cream quite simply wasn’t cutting it. I arrived home with a patch of skin on my temple that wasn’t as dark as the rest and after furiously Googling it, it turned out to be skin pigmentation. This year I was determined to give my face the protection it deserved and I splashed out on a couple of posh tubes of sun cream.

Caudalie Anti-Aging Face Suncare £20

I had no idea that Caudalie suncare products even existed but once I spied this pretty tube in Space NK, I couldn’t wait to try it. You can find it online here. The Caudalie factor 50 sun cream is slightly greasy but it’s nothing a dab of sheer face powder won’t fix. I used this for the first five days of my holiday and applied it once in the morning before I left my hotel room. I also applied it after swimming and due to the high factor it feels like a cooling protective barrier from the sun. Impressively I still managed to tan through it with no sign of pigmentation. My face tanned evenly which proves that the levels of protection are sufficient. I will always use a factor 50 for my face in the future. My favourite thing about this cream was its anti-aging properties.

Clarins Sun Wrinkle Control Cream For Face High Protection £19.00

The Clarins factor 30 came into play on the last few days of my holiday as I wanted to compare it to the Caudalie sun cream. A Cosmopolitan Beauty award winner, this sun cream features luxurious ingredients such as Sesame Oil and Aloe to protect skin while leaving it moisturized. Like the Caudalie sun cream, this tiny tube boasts adequate anti-aging agents which is a bonus. You can find it online here. It’s non oily so you don’t need to use it with powder but the Caudalie tube wins hands down on fragrance.

If I had to choose, Caudalie has my vote. Which is your favourite?
