As graduation time rolls around, you’ll be feeling a sense of pride like nothing you’ve ever felt before. Your hard work, your stress, your tears and your effort have led up to this moment and you are now here and ready to graduate for the first time! How exciting!

There is a lot of preparation involved in getting ready for graduation and as you know, the hard work doesn’t just end when you get your results. You need to ensure you have budgeted and paid for your graduation gown, your graduation certificate holder to keep it safe and your after party! After all, you cannot graduate without some kind of celebration to round off the work you’ve done. When you consider everything that goes into graduation, here are the steps that you need to take to prepare for it.

  • Speak to your career officer. When was the last time you visited the careers office in your university? This is where you can get tailored advice about your future after your study. Your degree is going to carry you through and you finally get to step out into the world as someone who can do more for themselves. This is your chance to be excellent so speak to a careers officer and get tailored advice.
  • Start writing your resume. You’ve graduated now so what experience did you gather over your time at school? It’s time to upgrade your resume with all of that and put it together for employers to see. You can use the time now to work on your cover letter, too, as this is your introduction to other businesses. You can then add and adjust your cover letter for each job that you apply for!
  • Gather your references. While you’re writing a resume and a cover letter, don’t forget to add references. Speak to people who can vouch for you and the more they know you, the better.you need at least three references of professional standing and this can determine whether you get the job or not. If you’ve completed any placements or internships, it’s here you need to speak to people to back you up.
  • Speak to a recruiter. If you want to avoid any recruitment mistakes, it’s time that you avoid them and the best way to do this is to speak to a recruiter and learn what those are. You can then make sure that you are doing the right thing when applying and seeking the help you need to nail that job.
  • Buy a new outfit. You’re graduating, so it’s time to buy an outfit for interviewing that makes you look and feel fantastic. You want to feel confidence in your interview process, and a new outfit can do that!

Graduating is a huge deal. You are going to be going out into the world and earn money, impart your wisdom and learn new things all at once. Congratulations on this huge achievement – go kill it!
