I haven’t started my Christmas shopping yet but I’m definitely thinking about gift ideas and wrapping paper themes. So, I thought I’d start the week with a bit of gift inspiration and before my gift guides come out, get us in the festive spirit with a roundup of the small businesses I’ll be shopping with for Christmas gifts. Gift-giving is my thing. It always has been. But this year I’m not only putting more thought into the gifts that I buy but also where I buy them. 2020 has been such a tough year for a lot of small companies and independent brands and this second lockdown will be another swift blow to their bottom line. So, here’s a few companies to add to your list of virtual Xmas shopping destinations. From artwork to botanical skincare, here are some of the most unique and thoughtful gifts, handcrafted with love.
Candles and cozy home accessory gifts are always on my Christmas list and there are lots of small businesses that do the most beautifully scented festive candles. The Little Yorkshire Candle Company stock an incredible Midwinter scent as well as luxe diffusers.
Artwork – Is someone you know looking for a statement piece of art for their home or office? My friend Daniella Newall creates the most incredible resin designs, so why not commission something truly fabulous for a special friend or family member?
If it’s insta-worthy blankets and fashionable face masks you’re after, pop over to H & H lifestyle. The Herringbone wool blanket in pink is on my Christmas list this year. Hint hint.
These mini trees from Bloom and Wild are bound to brighten up the festive period for those working from home to those who are shielding and can’t pop out for a tree. Can you imagine the delight of getting a mini tree already decorated to the nines through the letterbox? I think the advent tree is my favourite, chocolate coins all day every day for the win!
Beauty Vouchers
*hollers* WE WANT OUR NAILS DONE (and we don’t want to pay for them). And brows and bikini lines for that matter. Did I mention massages, facials, and lash lifts? If there is one thing us gals want this year under the tree, it’s the promise of better brows and nails we don’t have to hide in our winter gloves. Beauty vouchers for a much-needed post-lockdown pamper session are a much-welcomed gift and it throws some support to our local beauty salons whose owners are struggling to keep their salons afloat during the pandemic. Heavenly facials and Microblading vouchers from Kosmetico if you’re Huddersfield or wakefield based as well as all the Neom candles and lotions and potions for a pamper night at home. The Beauty Parlour is local to me, so I’ll be buying some vouchers for my family for new-year mani-pedis. Nude Beauty Clinic is great for all things brows for Hertfordshire based beauty lovers.
If you prefer to surprise someone with beauty treats in the mail, a RoccaBox subscription is the answer.
Boujee bathtime goodies always go down a treat and ever since I created the boujee bathtime ritual at home, I’ve become obsessed with luxurious bubble baths, salts, and scrubs. If your partner loves taking baths, head to Bodhi and Birch, my go-to independent for advanced botanical products. The Rosemary Himalayan Body scrub is my absolute bathtime essential as well as the Siam Ginger bath and shower therapy.
Give the gift of good vibes this year! Know someone who likes to sage their home or charge their crystals under the light of a full moon? Add to their collection at Woodland W0nders who make the most aesthetically pleasing floral smudge stick bundles and hampers that come with crystals and herbs designed for spiritual cleansing.
Perhaps it’s their finances that need detoxing this year? A financial planner is a great little gift for freelancers and boss babes.
Interior Affair is run by a family friend and it’s basically a treasure trove for beautiful homeware and gifts. Twinkly photo frames, handmade cushions, ornaments, artwork, and plush hot water bottles, not to mention insanely magical Christmas wreaths and baubles. I love the idea of getting someone special a festive trinket that brings joy on repeat year after year. We’re all spending more time at home at the moment so any gift that adds a little bit of luxury will be well received. This lovely interiors boutique stocks trendy mask chains which are perfect to pop in a stocking or in a homemade table cracker! DM them on Instagram to make an order and tell them I sent you!
Luxury baby hampers are always perfect for a baby’s first Christmas. These ones contain little luxuries like the Aden and Anais muslins! If you know you know. They come in boxes that can be recycled into a sensory box!
Made Weave Love does the cutest decorative weave designs that add a unique touch to any nursery.
Eva and Rose have little mice in matchboxes. I’ve bought these for Jolie’s stocking.
For little ones, the Made by Lalie handmade hair bows make the perfect stocking fillers. Honestly, the sweetest hair accessories in all the land. The Oskoe dress up range is amazing if you want to add to a dressing up box.
Or how about a statement print or a series of mini prints? Christian Alexander Bailey is the most talented pen and ink artist and has some beautiful prints featuring cute and characterful corners of Harrogate and other wonderful things. I need the Labrador print in my life.
If you like to gift sweet treats or need a gorgeous gift for the host, French brand Zchoc does the most fabulous chocolates presented in even more fabulous gift boxes. They have outdone themselves with the Christmas collection. This year’s wooden presentation boxes come with an embossed gold tree. Just stunning and no wrapping required! For something a little more local, we have the Yorkshire Chocolatier who creates sumptuous handmade Christmas themed chocolate lollies and chocolate-filled crackers. For those who like a Christmas tipple, look no further than whisky themed gifts from Drinks by the Dram.
Luxury Matchy Matchy striped PJs for the whole family is a firm favourite and I’ll be buying mine from Woodstock Laundry.
We are all going to want to stay healthy and be our best selves in 2021, so why not pop some PT sessions under the tree? My PT is the reason I’ve relocated my core (and sanity) after having a baby and has a fancy new studio in Horsforth and he offers one-on-one sessions. Stalk him on Insta and enquire about booking a block of sessions here.
Sending festive wishes in the mail is something more important than ever this year and I’ll be getting my cards as usual from Five Dollar Shake. This brand is always my go-to for stunning festive cards but they also do delightful gift bags and festive wrapping paper. Each card is handmade in Sussex by a dedicated team and I’ve yet to find more stunning sparkly cards.
Lastly, there’scCute as a button homemade mini Gingerbread House making kits from Balterzens.
Great as a little pre-Christmas activity idea to do with the little ones. This little coffee house used to be my favourite haunt in Harrogate but I’ll settle for some festive cheer in gingerbread form this year.
Have I missed any? Drop me a comment with your favourite small business!
