If you are anything like me, you are still pulling together your sanity summer wardrobe after having a baby never mind your holiday wardrobe. With that in mind, I thought I would take a look at some of the clothing items I will be packing (many of which I used to automatically assume were not for me) that work perfectly for my postpartum physique. Clothes that actually look really good once you try them on. Promise!
Kaftans and Kimonos
As a new mum, you may not be overly excited about shopping for swimwear but a glamorous coverup can make you feel like you. Don’t want to bare all but still want to enjoy the sun? You can easily wear a kimono as a summer cover-up. It feels great to be able to show a bit of skin and get a tan without having to feel self-conscious. So, having something to slip on over the top of your bikini (who am I kidding – swimsuit) is always a good idea. Kimonos are perfect for this. They are usually made of really lightweight fabric. So, provided you choose one that does not wrinkle, you can easily keep one in your beach bag.
Playsuits and jumpsuits
For those days when you are in a rush and do not have time to try on 3 tops before you find the right one, playsuits and jumpsuits are ideal. They really are an all in one outfit not to mention, they are extremely comfortable as well as stylish. Fantastic for days out with a baby because they stay in place no matter how active you are. For a beach holiday, playsuits are a particularly good option. You can easily slip one on over your swimming costume, enjoy lunch in a restaurant, then go straight back to the beach.
Tankinis
Speaking of swimming costumes, if you have never tried on a tankini, maybe you should. They are a bit more modest than a bikini but just as comfortable and easy to swim in. So, if you feel too self-conscious to wear a bikini, but do not like one-piece swimming costumes, try a tankini.
There is the added advantage that the top half can potentially be worn with jeans, shorts or a skirt for day trips. So, they are a good option if you do not have a lot of spare space in your suitcase.
Wraps
A wrap is another way of being pool ready. They are available in a huge range of colours and patterns, so it is not hard to find one that fits in with your outfit. They also double up as a baby blanket for impromptu naps.
Capes
If you struggle to keep a wrap in place, you might want to try a shrug/mini cape. You slip them on like a cardigan, so there is no way they are going to slip off when you lean down to pick up the baby.
