We’re Pregnant! My First Trimester

Pregnancy Announcement

Our pregnancy announcement went out on Instagram yesterday and we were so moved by the amazing response. My first trimester is over and I can’t believe it’s gone so fast. I mean for me, it’s sped by as my eyes have been open for approximately 2 percent of it, but like those selfish passenger naps where you dream all the way home while your partner has to brave the rush hour traffic with only the radio for company, it probably hasn’t been as fun for everyone else. There have been tearful meltdowns with best friends in Zara changing rooms, happy tears at almost everything (it once took only a greeting card to set me off) strops about FOMO on sober nights out and that day I cried because my nipples accidentally brushed past a door and trust me when I say, it wasn’t ok.

Finding out *puts down prosecco*

Fun fact, my baby has been on 3 flights already! When I found out, I was in Dubai airport on our return leg of the journey as I had an inkling that I was pregnant and I didn’t want to risk drinking all the free Emirates bubbles so I checked just in case. We took off only to do a 180 and head back to Dubai airport where I then had the pleasure of watching my Mum drink 5 glasses of chardonnay in the business class lounge while I held a token green tea. Fun times. We finally arrived home 24 hours later than expected which is painful when you are waiting to break the news in person to your husband who is pretty baffled as to why your 70-year-old mum is carrying all the heavy cases.

What I Wore

Sweatpants are all that fits me right now: Dressing myself has been the hardest thing to get to grips with so far. I’m in this weird world where normal clothes don’t fit me right, but maternity wear is all a bit tenty. I can’t count the number of online orders I’ve placed, unpacking and repacking Asos parcels is basically my new full-time job. I’m living in my oversized Zara shirts and my old faithful Flannels jeggings at the moment, but I’m definitely going to have to brave Bravissimo for a maternity bra as my boobs basically have their own postcode right now. I’ve bought a silk kimono that I’m beyond excited for as I’m going to be fancy and wear it around the house and I’m even going to pack it for my holidays. Prepare to see a lot of it on insta in the coming months. The only actual maternity items I’ve bought so far is a cracking pair of black jeans from H & M and some fugly sleep bras from Marks and Sparks. You know it’s going to be bad when the fitting lady says don’t scream when you see them.

How I’ve been feeling

Sickness? I’ve been quite lucky on the morning sickness front, I’ve only entered queeze city when I’ve taken my Pregnacare tablets after a too small breakfast, but changing it to dinner time suits me a lot better. A lot of people say how taking them is the worst, but I don’t actually mind them, however, I am going to have to remortgage my house shortly if I plan to take them for the full nine months. Just when I thought my monthly Boots shop couldn’t get more expensive.

Things I’m craving and things I don’t love anymore

The most distressing factor about my first trimester is that I’ve completely gone off tea. This doesn’t sit well with me at all because I love having tea in bed on a weekend and it’s just not the same with a glass of Robinsons fruit and barley. I’m also not a huge fan of the taste of water anymore so I’m going through cordial like it’s going out of fashion. No major cravings as of yet apart from the fizzy Percy pigs from M & S. I could eat them for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner, supper and a midnight feast.

zzzzzzz

Let’s talk about the exhaustion. My new bedtime is 9pm. I have at least two naps per day not counting car naps and involuntary naps whenever I’m somewhere that involves lying down (the chiropractor, massages, spas or the sofa). I have never felt so tired. It is starting to shift so hopefully I’m moving into that ooh I have so much energy phase I’ve read about. I’m down to one mini nap per day. Second-trimester energy is that you?

Needing new hobbies

What are my hobbies again? I’d be lying if I said that the first trimester has been fun. There was that week that I was blissfully unaware that I was growing a human in Dubai, but since then it turns out that drinking in nice places is my main hobby and when you remove champagne from the equation, it just isn’t as good. I need to remember what I like doing that doesn’t involve fancy gin cocktails and goats cheese. Leave ideas in the comments. I have been reading a lot. So many people have bought me really great books and this one by Clemmie Hooper is full of no-nonsense advice for the early stages right through to labour.

Beauty products I’ve bought

HOW MUCH is that stretch mark cream? I’m all for being stretch mark free, but as someone who is now the proud owner of half the Clarins counter, I’m a tad worried about my bank balance. Things I’ve bought so far include Clarins Stretch Mark Minimiser and the oil is next on my list. I’m also using Palmers Cocoa Butter for Stretch Marks on a night as it’s waaaaay cheaper.

Is there any other essential beauty products that I should be buying? Leave me a note in the comments!

Huge Congrats to you both! Elemis Japenese Body Oil is what I used throughout my pregnancy- not a stretch mark in sight, well worth the pennies. Also elemis superfood face oil was a life saver, the hormone imbalance was a nightmare to my skin but this product did the trick! Here if you need anything… B x
