The S/S Swimsuit Edit: Finding the One

Happy Monday lovely readers, I have a little swimwear edit for you today should you be searching for that perfect one-piece. A fancy swimsuit has the power to redefine your holiday wardrobe, but with the latest designs being more plunging in the front and lower at the back than ever not to mention the one with the middle missing, finding one that celebrates your best areas and hides the bits you don’t love as much can be quite the challenge. Fun fact. I don’t actually own a swimsuit and with my Dubai trip looming I think it’s time to invest. The search is on.

Top Picks:
Here’s six swimsuits I’m loving.

1) Melissa Odabash striped bandeau one-piece – I love the simplicity of this piece. A navy nautical design is never going to go out of style. It has removable straps and pads for extra support when you need it and full coverage bottoms.

2) Melissa Odabash Ikat print one piece – Mint green and light blue are a match made in heaven. i’m obsessed with the colour of this one, perfect with a tan.
3) Melissa Odabash animal print halterneck swimsuit – Halterneck styles are ideal if you have a larger chest. Support and style in one.
4) Camilla Boho one piece with crochet trim – This design is so stylish, it doesn’t get much more glamorous than this.
5) Seafolly swimsuit with ladder style back and tribal design – Guarenteed to make an impact.

6) Gottex strapless swimsuit with tummy control –*applauds* Who doesn’t want a swimsuit that pulls you in in all the right places.

So, where does one actually find a swimsuit in February? I’m not going to lie, there isn’t much in the shops right now so the best place to start is online. This is actually a great thing as it means no hunting through the high-street shops and trying on swimwear in those changing rooms with the 360 mirrors. *cries* I’ve been hunting around online at Simply Beach as I have no idea which shape of swimming costume to go for and they have a huge variety of brands and styles. Like, literally every style, colour, pattern you can imagine.

What I look for in a swimsuit. How to narrow down the options:

QUALITY: A swimsuit needs to offer a high level of support just like your favourite lingerie set and when I require quality, I turn to designer brands. Melissa Odabash, Heidi Klein and Pilyq are my go-to brands for bikinis so it makes sense to opt for a brand I already buy and trust. Yes, they are pricy but I want an investment piece that I can bring out season after season.

THE SHADE: Find a shade that suits you: The first thing I usually do when hunting for swimwear is filter the colour options as I know the colours that work with my skintone and the rest of my wardrobe. For me this is usually black, white, blue, or maybe a pastel shade.

THE SHAPE: The key is to find a shape to complement your sillhouette: So, for me swimwear is always a battle as I have big boobs and a long torso. This means that not all swimsuits will complement my frame as they can make my body look shorter than it is. Not ideal when your only 5ft2. In terms of shape, I think it is integral to pick a design you will feel comfortble in. I would choose a swimsuit for a boat trip and it’s times like these when you want a piece of swimwear that will keep everything where it should be. This means opting for an underwired design with straps if you have big boobs or high cut designs to lengthen your legs.

I’ll be blogging my trip to Dubai, so keep your eyes peeled for my very first swimsuit pics!
