*The Primal Pantry Taster Box £9.99 (shop it here)
Today’s post is a little different. If we haven’t spoken in a while, you may not know that I’ve become a protein person. Not only do I have a protein shake every day, I cary around protein bars and have a stash a home. *smug face* I’ve jumped on the protein bar bandwagon and I thought I’d tell you all about it and the long and lonely journey it took to get here.
My husband is a protein bar lover. I can’t count the amount of times he has eaten protein bars in front of me acting like they are the most delicious treats to ever grace his lips exclaiming things like:
Babe, you won’t believe how good this is. It tastes like a Mars Bar!
Seriously, it tastes just like real chocolate. Better in fact!
Taste it. Just try it. I promise it’s like a dessert!
Every time I was sucked in, only to taste something that wasn’t dissimilar to cardboard with a hint of nut. *shiver* I started to doubt the man I’d married. I mean car snacks are the foundation for any solid relationship and cardboard protein bars simply weren’t going to cut it.
When The Primal Pantry kindly got in touch to tell me about their protein/paleo bars, I felt the familiar glimmer of hope but I never expected to actual like them. Now, don’t get me wrong, they taste absolutely nothing like a double stuffed Oreo or even a Mars bar but they are nice. The Primal Pantry sent me their tasting box to try which was actually really fun because now I have two favourite flavours that I can purchase without worrying that I’m going to take one tiny bite and spit it back out. Out of the eight flavours, there were some that I loved (the mixed berries) and some that I didn’t (almond and cashew) but all in all it was just nice to find a bar that didn’t make me hate my husband.
So, here’s what I love about them:
They don’t have 8 million ingredients in them: I always find products that have an endless list of ingredients, most of which I’ve never heard of and some that sound downright scary a little bit off putting. So, the fact that these are made up of four or five raw food ingredients all of which are either a fruit or a nut made me less apprehensive to try them.
The packaging is super cute: It used to be that protein bras and manly packaging went hand in hand so it’s nice to see a brand that has gone down different path.
They actually taste of what they are supposed to: There are no nasty surprises with these and they don’t pretend to taste like your favourite sweet treat. They simply taste of what it says on the packaging. My absolute favourite paleo flavours were the hazelnut and cocoa, the coconut and macadamia (which I ate before I had a chance to take a photo) and the coco and orange protein bar.
Now don’t get me wrong, while it’s nice to have an option between a Twix and a something healthy, this doesn’t mean you won’t find me indulging in something sweet. I’ll probably always be that girl who finds Oreo crumbs in her cleavage but life is all about balance.
Also, GREAT GIFT ALERT. The Primal Pantry are doing an advent calendar this year and it’s pretty awesome, in fact I’m probably going to get my husband one as a cute little pre-christmas gift to gain a few brownie (protein) points. This gift is so novel that it totally makes it ok that I just used the C word in September. It’s also a thoughtful idea for gluten free/dairy free friends and family. You can preorder and get a £5 discount here.
