Sundays are lazy days designed for lie ins, breakfast in bed and if you can bear to part with your duvet, Sunday Lunch. I’m a huge fan of Sunday lunch but it’s been a while since I found one that was blog worthy. Introducing The Sunday Lunch Club at Bar 166 & Bistro. A word of advice, take stretchy pants.
Reason number one to join TSLC… Sunday Roast for just £9.90
I’ve always wanted to join a club and at this club, everyone is welcome. You don’t have to be able to play a musical instrument or be able to sing to get in. Live music creates a buzzing atmosphere as you settle in at your table and peruse the menu. This laid back bar and bistro is Horsforth’s hidden gem. It’s upmarket yet affordable making it one of my favourite local spots in which to drink and dine.
This Sunday roast comes with all of the trimmings and is large enough to feed a small rugby team. At first sight, it looks manageable but there is a secret helping of Sunday Lunch hiding under the giant Yorkshire pudding.
Whatever you do, leave room for dessert. Trust me. You’ll be glad you did. You won’t find the standard fudge cake and ice cream combo at Bar 166. Their dessert menu is packed to the brim with deliciousness, make the wrong choice and you might have to endure a serious case of cake envy. I opted for the cheesecake of the day and Simon chose the brownie even though I wanted him to get the millionaires shortbread ice cream cake. Banoffe cheesecake is my downfall, I simply can’t resist it. It was totally worth the eight million hours that I’m going to have to spend in the gym working it off. Don’t you think?
Words cannot describe how scandalously good this cheesecake is, totally worth tomorrow’s carb face. I could only have enjoyed it more if it had magically been calorie free.
Unlike the banoffee cheesecake, the brownie is bought in and therefore fairly average.
I would recommend you try the Eton mess or the ice cream cake if you want something spectacular to finish off with.
