Food with friends should be fun and informal. While every now and then it’s nice to get glammed up and head out in your finery, I like nothing more than to throw on a maxi and head off to a venue that is neither posh nor pretentious. Say hello to The Botanist, a cosy potting shed style watering hole, that makes you feel right at home. AKA my second favourite Trinity based bar to have a mid week Mojito. Read about my first here.
Now I’m not a beer drinker but Beer is what The Botanist does best. With an impressive beer garden at the back, you can sit back under the stars and choose from over forty types of beer and cider from around the world. My favourite thing about The Botanist? The cocktails. The Watermelon Martini is perfect to sip as you peruse the scandalously large cocktail menu deciding what to have next. The Botanist cocktail c’est magnifique!
All of the best foods are designed to be eaten with your hands and the deli sharing platters are no exception. I don’t usually share food but I made an exception for my BFF. Stack your deli plate high with delicious sun dried tomatoes, roasted peppers, humous and salami. The food menu is short and sweet and as a fussy eater, I was shocked at the amount of choice.
The hanging kebabs are delicious, I opted for haloumi. Give your kebab a little nudge and watch as haloumi chunks, roasted peppers and toasted mushrooms fall like dominoes onto a bed of couscous. Yum!
S opted for the daily special, the Thai Green Curry which was presented perfectly but wasn’t as flavoursome as she hoped even after requesting extra spice. The Botanist is a place like no other. Adorable boys in braces roam the restaurant with infectious smiles and the service is second to none. If the boys in braces don’t catch your attention, the banana desert definitely will. Order this and you may get a few weird stares on the side.
Um. Trust me, this concoction is worth a few odd looks. It’s absolutely delicious but if you want a desert that won’t make your fellow guests stop and stare, the chocolate cake is pretty good too. There’s no quirky presentation here just a dense chocolatey cake that will satisfy your sweet cravings. What do you think is the best bit about The Botanist? The live music? The rustic setting?
